Webinar - Supporting Women in the Criminal Justice System

Public Policy Exchange will be hosting a webinar on Supporting Women in the Criminal Justice System: reducing the number of women in prison and addressing the distinct needs of women in the criminal justice system which will take place on Thursday, May 29th 2025 between 9:30 AM — 1:00 PM

Programme:

 

  • Learn about and assess, trends in female offending, drivers of the growth in the female prison population, and conditions in women’s prisons in the UK
  • Assess the Labour government’s plans for reducing the female prison population, improving conditions in female prisons and reducing rates of offending and reoffending
  • Establish the role and powers of that the Women’s Justice Board should have in reducing the number of women in prison and addressing the distinct needs of women in the criminal justice system
  • Promote alternatives to prison for women convicted of non-violent sentences
  • Develop strategies for better protecting vulnerable women at risk of incarceration, especially those who are victims of domestic abuse
  • Develop strategies for improving mental health and drug treatment services in women’s prison and reducing rates of self-harm
  • Exchange views on how to better protect and support the children of women in prison
  • Exchange views on how to improve the provision and take-up of education and training opportunities in prisons, support women back into employment upon release, and ensure that more women leaving prison have settled accommodation in place
