ECPA 2023: call for projects

European Crime Prevention Award 2023

Call for projects now open!

The European Crime Prevention Award (ECPA) and Best Practice Conference (BPC) will take place on 13 and 14 December 2023 in Valencia. The theme is preventing the trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation and other kinds of exploitation.

Interested in participating? Please submit the project in English to the EUCPN Secretariat, through the National Representative of the EUCPN. The deadline is 29 September 2023. 

 

 

Community Intervention and Correctional Responses to Domestic Violence in Rhode Island

Last month, the CSG Justice Center concluded an analysis of domestic violence responses in Rhode Island and presented recommendations to the Domestic Violence Executive Working Group. The recommendations were informed by interviews, surveys, and focus groups with over 230 individuals and analyses of over 96,000 case files.

Commemorating 50 years of the AIC as the 2023 conference brings together experts in crime and criminal justice


The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) is hosting the AIC 2023 conference on Monday 16 October 2023, commemorating 50 years since the establishment of the AIC.

AIC Deputy Director Dr Rick Brown said he is especially excited that this conference will be held at the National Library of Australia in Canberra, where in 1973 Attorney-General, Senator Murphy officially announced the opening of AIC.

“We are proud to have been delivering national research to promote justice and reduce crime for 50 years. Our applied research makes a significant contribution to ongoing policy and practice.

“The AIC 2023 conference provides an excellent opportunity for policy-makers, practitioners, and academics to come together to discuss contemporary issues impacting the crime and justice sector Australia.

“We’re excited to hear from experts to address topics including cybercrime, online sexual exploitation of children, sexual violence, future of policing and corrections and climate change and crime,” Dr Brown said.

The 2023 conference will also include a talk by Professor Russell G Smith on the history of the AIC.

Webinar on Combatting Knife Crime in The UK

Public Policy Exchange will be hosting a webinar on Combatting Knife Crime in the UK: Tough on Knife Crime, Tough on the Causes of Knife Crime which will take place on Thursday, October 19th 2023 between 9:30 AM — 1:00 PM

 

Programme

  • Examine current government policy to tackle knife crime, its successes and failures
  • Explore how to develop a multi-agency approach to tackling knife crime
  • Consider how to better identify and support children and young people at risk of committing a knife-related crime
  • Understand the implication of the Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Act 2022 for local authorities, police and other stakeholders addressing knife crime
  • Assess the impact of austerity on deprived communities and the link between rising deprivation and the growth of knife crime
  • Consider the impact that an increase in police stop and search powers will have on relationships between the public and police
  • Discuss the role of drugs and county lines in exacerbating the issue of knife crime and how stakeholders should respond
  • Examine whether the government’s strategy addresses the root causes of knife crime and develop an understanding of what an optimal long-term strategy might look like
  • Working with community groups and other local and regional stakeholders to prevent knife crime
  • Assess the wider economic and policy changes needed to meaningfully tackle knife crime and the causes of knife crime
  • Address current gaps in policy including legislation around knife sales
