Youth at-risk

Youth between the ages of 6 to 24 who are at risk of engaging in delinquent behaviours or criminal activity. Youth may have had negative contact with various agencies such as law enforcement and schools however this may not always be the case. Youth at-risk have been exposed to one or more risk factors such as substance abuse, poor attachment to school, poor parenting, abuse, etc. These risk factors work against a young personís ability to develop the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical ability of a well-adapted adult (Statistics Canada, 2009).
