SARA stands for scanning, analysis, response, and assessment. It is a problem-solving approach aimed at reducing the impact of crime in a community: Scanning involves the identification of recurring incidents. Analysis stage uses a variety of community sources to determine why the incidents are occurring. Response involves the creation and implementation of a strategy that aims to prevent future occurrences, protect the victims of crime, and make crime locations less conducive to criminal behaviour. Assessment involves the measurement of the impacts and the effectiveness of the strategy (Levi and Maguire, 2004).
