In the fight against crime, one can basically differentiate between preventive and repressive measures. With preventive measures, dangerous situations should be promptly recognised and eliminated by suitable counter measures. Repressive measures should clear up past offences and end up with a legal judgement. In Germany the fight against crime is the police and the public prosecutor office’s most important task.
