TELL YOUR STORY: Appeal, variety and accessibility of storytelling approach

 

Tell Your Story project was designed to explore the use of digital storytelling and storymapping in education in order to contrast early school leaving.

 

What has been done so far?

 

Tell Your Story

 

Teachers, educators and youth workers benefited from an innovative method for working with young people at risk, participating at the final event of the project.

 

A dissemination event has been held in each partner country, the results of the project have been presented to an audience of all sectors cover by the project: teacher, educator, youth workers and decision-makers. The project is embedded in the larger context of VET/ School and non-formal education and training responses to the issue of early school leavers.

 

Storytelling can be used as a didactical approach in education. Its main strengths are in their appeal, variety and accessibility. Stories are also engaging and easy to remember. Storytelling helps to share experiences, explain events and phenomena and transfer knowledge.

 

Tell Your Story at school

 

The Publication - Preventing early drop-out through digital stories and maps has been shared with all participants. It is composed of three sections as below:

  • Introduction to the project and its approach.
  • Presentation of highlights of the implementation of the learning activities.
  • Guidelines for teachers, educators, youth workers: how Story Maps can be used in the classroom.

The most successful pedagogical approaches for the reintegration of early school leavers in education are flexible, inclusive and participatory, tailored to the needs of young people, aimed at the development of their careers, and include a variety of possible approaches, such as mentoring or individual learning plan.
